Siemens Digital Industries have shared a great success story about the benefits of integrating Opcenter APS into planning and production for complex tubular parts manufacturer Proform.
Opcenter APS is an advanced planning and scheduling tool that supports manufacturers in their strategic planning needs and creates visibility of production for all departments in the business.
Proform needed a tool that would help them to keep up with demand for production of different size pipes made from a variety of materials across 260 work centres fulfilling orders covering 7,000 referenced finished products, including custom orders and found that Opcenter APS was the right software for them.
Proform have Opcenter APS configured to communicate with their MES and CMMS systems to update the planning according to the state of progress of the operations in the workshops and pass on any maintenance action requests.
“In the past, three people within the planning department dealt with 30 work centers running eight hours a day, whereas now one person in the department deals with 260 work centers running 24 hours a day.”
Frédéric Bréchon, Planning Manager, Proform
Different departments at Proform are able to access Opcenter APS data to support them in their roles.
The engineering department use Opcenter APS to schedule production and the sales department relies on Opcenter APS to conduct simulations and plan projected orders so they will understand the load and impact on ongoing orders which enables them to give accurate lead times to customers and allows them to understand the impact of custom orders on ongoing production.
“When the planning department announces a deadline, internally or to the customers… we know that it will be observed”
Frédéric Bréchon, Planning Manager, Proform
